Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells is the third novel in her Sabine Kane Series and it seems the books are getting better and better. It’s full of action, danger, some kick-ass characters and determination to succeed.

Sabine has team-up with Adam and Giguhl in the last book and I’m happy to see that it’s still the same, but once in awhile Sabine forgets and goes hunting on her own, which will sometime leads to trouble.

The attraction between Adam and Sabine is growing by the minute, but for some silly reasons she holds back. Adam is patience and is taking a lot of “cold” showers, but he is determined to make her see that they belong together.

We meet some great new secondary characters; a human voodoo priestess, a drag queen and a female werewolf, who all come along on this journey to stop the evil Lavinia for calling Cain back. Maisie has a rough time in this novel, being tortured that way, so Lavinia can hurt Sabine, but payback is a bitch as Lavinia gets what she deserves.

As I said before the books are getting better and better, so this novel is definitely worth your time to read. You are in for a fabulous ride on a roller coaster.

Jaye Wells - The mage in black

Sabina Kane is a former assassin and half vampire/half mage. She never fitted in the vampire world and after learning the hard way that her grandmother cannot be trusted, she knows she never fits in that world. So she goes with the mage Adam to travel to New York to finally meet her long lost twin sister at the Hekate Council, where she will go through training to get a hold of her magical half.

But troubles follow her everywhere, because there are a couple attempts on her life and that means someone within the Haven of Mages want Sabina gone or dead. But of course that’s not all the trouble she’s in, her demon familiar Giguhl, decides to join a fight club where the only rule is “No Mercy”.

The Mage in Black by Jaye Wells is the second novel in her Sabina Kane Series and I have to say it’s fabulous. Just like the first novel, it’s full of action, danger and betrayal, a fabulous combination to get a great novel.

Sabina Kane is a strong kick-ass assassin. After the betrayal of her grandmother, the head of the vampire Dominae, she doesn’t trust easily. The only two people she’s close to is Mage Adam, who is she very attracted to and her demon familiar Giguhl. Now she is travelling to meet her twin sister and learn more about the other side of her inheritance.

Sabina grows in her magical abilities, but not everyone is happy about that, because someone inside the Haven is doing everything in their power to stop her. There are several tests waiting for Sabina to complete, to test her loyalty to her sister and the council. But that’s not all, at the fight club she runs into an old lover, someone she banned out of her life long ago. Now she has the attention of two strong men fighting for her attention, but is she capable of choosing one of them.

We definitely saw a different side of Sabina and I have to say I like it. It shows that she is not only the cold hard chick she wants everyone to think she is, but she is also vulnerable and sentimental sometimes.

I cannot say otherwise than that this novel is great and definitely worth to read. I’m really looking forward to the next novel and see what will happen next.

Jaye Welles - Red-headed stepchild

Sabine Kane is a child of a forbidden relationship between a vampire and a mage. Her mother shortly dies after giving birth and Sabine was raised by her grandmother, who is also the head of the Dominae. Sabine’s childhood is hard and she is taught that all other races are inferior and that vampires and especially the Dominae is everything. Because Sabine is a half-breed she must be loyal and the only future for Sabine is to be a cold hearted assassin, who kills any target selected by the Dominae without questioning.

Sabine is trying hard to impress her grandmother but it seems she cannot make up for her mother’s mistake and now she is send to kill her best friend for his betrayal to the Dominae. But that is not all she has to infiltrate into the enemies camp and get as much information for the grandmother in order to win the war. But Sabine gets help from an unexpected race, it seems the mage race has an interest in Sabine too and wants to tell her the truth about her background once and for all. Her grandmother has kept many secrets from her and she is about to find out what….

Red-headed stepchild by Jaye Welles is the first novel in her Sabine Kane series and also her debut novel. As many other debut novels, especially the ones in a series has a lot of world building and character information in it, like this one. But the storyline is great, so all the information was not bothering me at all.

Sabine Kane is a kick-ass assassin and determined to please her grandmother in every way she can, even if it means killing one of her best friends. And when her grandmother ask her to be a spy in the enemy camp to win as much as information to win the war, Sabine slowly discover that the Dominae and her grandmother are keeping secrets from her. Not only does she discover that not all the race is evil, but also that her mage family is looking for her.

Sometimes I wanted to smack Sabine’s head for her refusal to see the reality before her eyes, but with the help of a mage and the midwife of her mother, she slowly see she has been used by the ones she loves the most.

I have to be honest; this is definitely a good debut album with a great storyline. I’m looking forward to see how this all is going to turn in the next novel.
